Authorisation of Reimbursement of Travel Expenses, 1770

Travel Expenses

Official document from Frederick’s court in Potsdam. Part of a collection of autographs, letters and portraits. Unpublished.

This document authorises travel expenses from Berlin to London for the Secretary to the Prussian Ambassador in London, Jeanneret de Dunilac, and is likely to relate to his initial appointment in 1770. The Ambassador Joachim Carl von Maltzan was often absent from London, and Frederick would then correspond directly with Dunilac about important diplomatic questions. Dunilac proved an asset especially in sensitive negotiations with Britain concerning the division of Poland.
